re: Solar Eclipse - Is there significance to Part of Fortune conjunct Ascendant (exact to the minute) and quincunx the North Node?
A. The Part of Fortune is always conjunct the Ascendant during the New Moon or Solar Eclipse. And the Lunar Node axis is generally within a few degrees of the Ascendant, but it can be the North or South Node. By definition, the Lunar Nodes are where the Moon’s path crosses the ecliptic, so eclipses happen when the New or Full Moon is close to the Lunar Node axis.
re: Facebook - about "Putting NewsScope on FB might be a good alternative to using this homestead provider, since it takes so long to update pages." I'm not entirely sure what this means, but if it means that your column would no longer appear on Neptune Cafe, I'd beg you to not do this. I enjoy your column every week, ever since I found the site through Richard Nolle's site, but I am not on Facebook and never will be. Please don't make it so those of us that don't participate in a particular forum, however popular it might be, can't access your wonderful analyses.
A. I’ve gotten a lot of feedback on the migration of NewsScope to Facebook. For the time being, it will be both here and there. At this site, the pages take several hours every week to update, while on FB, it’s a straightforward copy and paste. The lead NewsScope piece is going up on FB on Sundays.
re: SA-PL - It's discouraging to think that US politics are going to keep getting worse until at least January 2020 with the exact Saturn-Pluto conjunction. Is there a way to dodge the bullet? Increase compassion? Any remedy?
A. As I’ve been suggesting, the placement of Ceres and Eris within the SA-PL configuration is a major clue, and refers to the empowerment of women. We’ve seen this already with the #MeToo movement, and the increasing number of women getting elected to Congress and other political and corporate offices.
re: Rodman - I have long touted Dennis Rodman as the mediator between the US and Korea, so thank you for your article about him being the unofficial ambassador. Deep down I think he was probably the real reason this summit happened, as he has been planting and sowing the seeds for nearly five years, as you pointed out.

A. I’ve been on Facebook for years and haven’t had any problems with privacy issues. Putting NewsScope on FB might be a good alternative to using this homestead provider, since it takes so long to update pages. There are vibrant astrology groups there, and unlike this page, it's mobile friendly.
Re: Trump – Hey, t pluto square US p mars @ 17:54 Libra for final time. I've mentioned before that I noticed this aspect first in spring of 2016 just as Trump was getting traction in the primaries and then again almost exact when he was sworn in. Again, during the Nov. 2018 election, Pluto is @19:10 Libra, hardly one degree past exact. I want to hope it means that the current gangster element in politics is over. Can you 'make my day'?

re: Meghan - Duchess of Sussex .. About her Part of Fortune. Your article uses the Part of Fortune using the day chart formula, hence 17 ish deg Virgo. But her natal chart is nocturnal, Sun is below horizon...My software therefore gives her PoF as 1Ge 23" ? I thought it was standard practice to use the PoF formula based on whether the chart is day/night .
A. Yes, I always use the daytime formula. I've written an extensive article (published in Dell Horoscope magazine) explaining why this is the way to go. It’s an analysis of ten presidents and how the Part of Fortune is a key indicator in their elections and general good or bad fortunes.
SolarFire used to have the default Part of Fortune set to the daylight formula, but after Rob Hand’s research into ancient astrology (which I don’t agree with), the SF default was switched to day and night time formulas. You have the option of making the default the daytime formula for all birth times.
This is further explained in my article on Joan Quigley and the Part of Fortune. It was also published in Dell Horoscope magazine and re-posted on my website here.
re: Trump’s SR - Are you sure that he'll be in Washington when the Solar Return happens? Did you try it out in Singapore??
A. Solar Returns are set for the residence, not the point where one happens to be on the globe at the time. The notion that one can enhance their SR prospects by being at a particularly lucky place during the SR is fake news perpetuated by dishonest astrologers seeking to make a buck.
re: Kennedy - Since you're so good at analyzing the Kennedy clan, I thought I'd see something about the recently released "Chappaquiddick" film in your column. (Did I miss it?)
After watching the film, I looked up the charts of Ted Kennedy, his wife Joan, and Mary Jo Kopechne (the passenger who drown -- actually, she suffocated -- in his car on that fateful night of July 18, 1969). What's really interesting is that ALL THREE OF THEM HAD THE PROGRESSED MOON CONJUNCT SATURN!
A. You're referring to an article I wrote on the Kennedy clan for Dell Horoscope magazine, maybe 10 years ago. I haven't really kept up on their comings and goings. That's fascinating that the three people involved all have progressed Moon-Saturn, tragic event not only for them but for the nation.
Maybe there's a new bunch of Kennedys on the horizon who can escape the Kennedy curse.
Re: The Big One - Referring to " the big one" do you mean an earthquake in Hawaii or California? I will be in Los Angeles with my daughter on May 29th, her birthday. Do you think we'll be safe there?
A. I was referring to Kiluaea in Hawaii. I think you'll be fine in Los Angeles. In my research, major earthquakes happen during outer planet alignments, and we don't have any now. The outer planets have some kind of gravitational or electro-magnetic influence that the smaller and faster moving planets dont. It may relate to sunspot activity, solar flares...

re: Russia - yes, this week's column was very interesting starting with the Russian chart. It seems they had an astrologer's advice since the Sun is at the MC, Jupiter is in the 10th, and Pluto is strong in Scorpio in the 2nd house of values.
Since the Russian Sun is conjunct trump's Sun, they certainty have a friend in him. It's disconcerting that Russia's natal Mars inconjuncts the U.S. ascendant, exactly, and Russia's natal Eris is conjunct the U.S. progressed MC this year.
re: Kim Jong Un - I'm baffled by Kim's sudden attitude and policy reversals. After years of posturing, bullying, and threatening the world with nuclear annihilation, now he's transformed himself into a rational human being? It seems unlikely. Can we trust the transformation? Is it a ruse? If not, how and why did it occur? Is it permanent? So many questions... Can you give us some insight?
A. As I suggest in 4/30 blog, it may be due in large part to the fear that Trump will actually start a nuclear exchange with North Korea. Trump is just crazy enough to do that, or so it seems.
re: Uranius - Just curious: is there a degree of orb associated with the upcoming Uranus into Taurus. My husband’s Asc is 3 deg. Wasn't sure how to read that, or if I need to. My Sag Asc at 0 is quincunx; is that going to be troublesome?
A. There’s an old astro-proverb that says Mars arrives ahead of time, Uranus on time, and Saturn is late. This refers to when the influence manifests, and Uranus is unusual in that it’s most evident when the aspect is exact. So your husband may feel it coming, but nothing happens yet. You may be more in line for some changes with this transit.

A. Thanks for the excellent suggestion. However, all I could find about her birth date is that she was likely born in 1962 in New Mexico.
re: Uranus - You mentioned that astrologers are a bit worried about how the Uranus-Taurus influence may affect Wall Street. Remember, Roosevelt confiscated all personally-owned gold in 1933 and took control of the production of the silver mines in 1934 when Uranus entered Taurus!
I faithfully read your weekly analysis of the prominent news items, but I do have a very hard time accepting "asteroidology", even though I fully understand that everything under the sun is in a constant state of evolution!

A. I don’t have any astrological insights about how the gold market will shape up over the next few years. It’s interesting that FDR had some connection with gold and silver the last time Uranus entered Taurus. Is this a coincidence, or what happened during the previous cycle?

Immigration Crisis and Border Chaos
Migrant children separated from their parents created a storm of protest against Trump’s “Zero-Tolerance” border policy last week, with religious groups and political leaders from both parties leading the national protest. Trump changed his tune when he signed an executive order apparently barring the breaking of family bonds. The tears of the incarcerated children became the rallying cry to force Trump’s hand.
Astrologically, this national conflict is one of the clearest indications that the U.S. Ascendant has 8º Scorpio Rising. As the anger, rage, and turmoil persisted through the week, transiting Mars was slowing down as it headed into its retrograde station. All week it was at 8º Aquarius, forming a hard square to the nation’s Scorpio Ascendant from the third house of neighbors. Is Mexico an American neighbor or not?
Natally, the U.S. has a Ceres-Uranus square with both placements also at 8º of their respective signs, Pisces and Gemini. This square has a wide range of possible manifestations, but in today’s era our national identity (Ascendant) is shaped by the competing values of independence and self-sufficiency (Uranus), and the values of taking care of the weak and disadvantaged (Ceres in Pisces). Ceres-Uranus is currently manifesting as the separation (Uranus) of parent and child (Ceres).
So not only was Mars squaring the Scorpio Ascendant, it was also activating the Ceres-Uranus square. Trump reversed his hard-nosed stance of allowing the children to be separated when he signed the executive order last Thursday. His reversal took place just hours after transiting Mars was quincunx the U.S. Uranus. The national conflict is not over: after Mars turns retrograde on the 26th, it will once again square the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant during the week leading up to the momentous Solar Eclipse on July 12.
Gawande begins his CEO position at the new firm on July 9, the day that transiting Jupiter turns direct at 13º Scorpio – exactly conjunct his Sun. This auspicious starting date is tempered by Mars retrograde in Aquarius. The criticism is that Gawande has never run a business before, and in fact, he has only two planets in the practical Earth signs: the generational Uranus-Pluto conjunction. Perhaps this is why he says “Making systems work, whether in health care, education, climate change, making a pathway out of poverty is the great task of our generation as a whole.”
Atul Gawande was born with a visionary Sun-Neptune conjunction in reform-minded Scorpio (Nov 5, 1965; Brooklyn, NY; time unknown), an illuminated combination that gains strength and leadership from numerous aspects from around his chart. Among these is the trine to Vesta in Cancer, which gives him a sense of mission as well as concern over how funds are being invested. The Sun’s trine to a Ceres-Chiron conjunction focuses his attention specifically on health (Chiron) care (Ceres).
Gawande’s vision is all about getting away from specialization, and learning how to succeed as a group, as a team. It’s highly Aquarian, and reflects the Sun’s sharp, revolutionary square to Black Moon Lilith in Aquarius. Lilith, along with his Pallas-Juno conjunction in Aquarius and his Moon in pioneering Aries, shape his paradigm-busting message. Atul Gawande, Healing the Health System
Last week, surgeon and journalist Atul Gawande was selected by the Dimon-Bezos-Buffet team to head a new health firm aiming to lower costs while improving care. Gawande has long spoken out about rising health care costs, and has clear ideas for what needs to be changed. “Making systems work is the great task of my generation of physicians and scientists,” he said.
The faster-moving Venus has now progressed to 2º Aquarius, but progressed Jupiter is still at 1º Aquarius, and now being activated by the square from transiting Uranus. Over the next several months, transiting Uranus will square progressed Venus, turn retrograde, and then square the Ascendant and progressed Jupiter again. And as transiting Mars moves in and out of its retrograde cycle in Aquarius, (also activating China’s Aquarius placements), China is fully prepared to wage a trade war with the U.S. Its $600 billion in annual exports to the U.S. could easily be sold to friendlier nations.
China’s horoscope (October 1, 1949; 3:01 pm; Beijing) naturally reflects the developing trade war scenario with transiting Uranus squaring the Aquarius Ascendant. The Aquarius presentation of China’s national image is its interest in networking trade agreements. Xi called on nations to “abandon those cold war mentalities and zero-sum games. We need to focus on win-win cooperation to build a new type of international relations.”
China’s immense financial growth in recent years is based on its multilateral agreements, and can be seen clearly in its progressed chart. The two benefics, Venus and Jupiter, formed a conjunction at 1º Aquarius – right on the Aquarius Ascendant. This combination has brought immense wealth and prosperity to a sleeping giant, which is now fully awake and challenging the world’s #1 economic and military superpower.
China Imposes $50 Billion in Tariffs
Trump’s trade war is spiraling out of control, especially against China, which last week countered U.S. tariffs of $50 billion with its own tariff of $50 billion. China’s Xi Jinping, speaking to a gathering of foreign business executives, referred indirectly to Trump’s economic policy when he said “we must stay vigilant because we have seen a surge of trade protectionism, isolation, and popularity.”
