re: Meghan - Duchess of Sussex .. About her Part of Fortune. Your article uses the Part of Fortune using the day chart formula, hence 17 ish deg Virgo. But her natal chart is nocturnal, Sun is below horizon...My software therefore gives her PoF as 1Ge 23" ? I thought it was standard practice to use the PoF formula based on whether the chart is day/night .

A. Yes, I always use the daytime formula. I've written an extensive article (published in Dell Horoscope magazine) explaining why this is the way to go. It’s an analysis of ten presidents and how the Part of Fortune is a key indicator in their elections and general good or bad fortunes.
SolarFire used to have the default Part of Fortune set to the daylight formula, but after Rob Hand’s research into ancient astrology (which I don’t agree with), the SF default was switched to day and night time formulas. You have the option of making the default the daytime formula for all birth times.
This is further explained in my article on Joan Quigley and the Part of Fortune. It was also published in Dell Horoscope magazine and re-posted on my website here.

re: Trump’s SR - Are you sure that he'll be in Washington when the Solar Return happens? Did you try it out in Singapore??

A. Solar Returns are set for the residence, not the point where one happens to be on the globe at the time. The notion that one can enhance their SR prospects by being at a particularly lucky place during the SR is fake news perpetuated by dishonest astrologers seeking to make a buck.

re: Kennedy - Since you're so good at analyzing the Kennedy clan, I thought I'd see something about the recently released "Chappaquiddick" film in your column. (Did I miss it?)
After watching the film, I looked up the charts of Ted Kennedy, his wife Joan, and Mary Jo Kopechne (the passenger who drown -- actually, she suffocated -- in his car on that fateful night of July 18, 1969). What's really interesting is that ALL THREE OF THEM HAD THE PROGRESSED MOON CONJUNCT SATURN!

A. You're referring to an article I wrote on the Kennedy clan for Dell Horoscope magazine, maybe 10 years ago. I haven't really kept up on their comings and goings. That's fascinating that the three people involved all have progressed Moon-Saturn, tragic event not only for them but for the nation.
Maybe there's a new bunch of Kennedys on the horizon who can escape the Kennedy curse.

Re: The Big One - Referring to " the big one" do you mean an earthquake in Hawaii or California? I will be in Los Angeles with my daughter on May 29th, her birthday. Do you think we'll be safe there?

A. I was referring to Kiluaea in Hawaii. I think you'll be fine in Los Angeles. In my research, major earthquakes happen during outer planet alignments, and we don't have any now. The outer planets have some kind of gravitational or electro-magnetic influence that the smaller and faster moving planets dont. It may relate to sunspot activity, solar flares...

re: Giuliani Some amazing connections between the charts of Trump and Giuliani might be profitably explored in Newscope. Thanks for your continuing Newscope service.

re: Trump - Thank you for your positive posting about Trump. For all the same reasons as everyone else, I can’t stand the guy. But I do also acknowledge that he alone has gotten the Korea situation where it is today and I appreciate your willingness to acknowledge that and also get an insight into the astrology behind it. Thanks also for the posting on Avenatti. I love the guy!

re: Russia - yes, this week's column was very interesting starting with the Russian chart. It seems they had an astrologer's advice since the Sun is at the MC, Jupiter is in the 10th, and Pluto is strong in Scorpio in the 2nd house of values.
Since the Russian Sun is conjunct trump's Sun, they certainty have a friend in him. It's disconcerting that Russia's natal Mars inconjuncts the U.S. ascendant, exactly, and Russia's natal Eris is conjunct the U.S. progressed MC this year.

re: Kim Jong Un - I'm baffled by Kim's sudden attitude and policy reversals. After years of posturing, bullying, and threatening the world with nuclear annihilation, now he's transformed himself into a rational human being? It seems unlikely. Can we trust the transformation? Is it a ruse? If not, how and why did it occur? Is it permanent? So many questions... Can you give us some insight?

A. As I suggest in 4/30 blog, it may be due in large part to the fear that Trump will actually start a nuclear exchange with North Korea. Trump is just crazy enough to do that, or so it seems.

re: Uranius Just curious: is there a degree of orb associated with the upcoming Uranus into Taurus. My husband’s Asc is 3 deg. Wasn't sure how to read that, or if I need to. My Sag Asc at 0 is quincunx; is that going to be troublesome?

A. There’s an old astro-proverb that says Mars arrives ahead of time, Uranus on time, and Saturn is late. This refers to when the influence manifests, and Uranus is unusual in that it’s most evident when the aspect is exact. So your husband may feel it coming, but nothing happens yet. You may be more in line for some changes with this transit.

re: profile nomination - Tammie Jo Shults! The lady who piloted the Southwest plane, my newest hero. I nominate her for a profile.

A. Thanks for the excellent suggestion. However, all I could find about her birth date is that she was likely born in 1962 in New Mexico.

re: Uranus - You mentioned that astrologers are a bit worried about how the Uranus-Taurus influence may affect Wall Street. Remember, Roosevelt confiscated all personally-owned gold in 1933 and took control of the production of the silver mines in 1934 when Uranus entered Taurus!
I faithfully read your weekly analysis of the prominent news items, but I do have a very hard time accepting "asteroidology", even though I fully understand that everything under the sun is in a constant state of evolution!
Please inform me of your response to my gold-silver price/value scenario for the next few years.

A. I don’t have any astrological insights about how the gold market will shape up over the next few years. It’s interesting that FDR had some connection with gold and silver the last time Uranus entered Taurus. Is this a coincidence, or what happened during the previous cycle?

re: China - I've seen somewhere someone using a birth chart for China with a 1deg Aquarius rising. Which chart do you find works?

A. Yes, I use this one too. It's been on my website for years. Here's a link with the chart and other relevant info: China

re: decency - Thought this OpEd in the New York Times might interest you. It makes a case for a new and powerful force of change arising in the US. Is this Lilith in the US chart? Ceres? Other asteroids? Would love to see your thoughts in a future column.

re: Kushner - I remember you talking about Jared and Pluto, and how 2018 would bring hard times to him. I remember how far away 2018 sounded at that time. But ut turned out to be a great prediction!

re: March - First let me again thank you for your weekly column. It is a Monday highlight. This week I have some additional comments regarding the March 24th March for Our Lives and the NRA chart.
Looking at the March for our Lives chart, one standout to me is the Mars-Moon opposition and a wider Mars-Saturn conjunction tying Saturn to the opposition to the Moon. Opposition aspects, as you know, indicate opposing viewpoints and opposing forces. Mars-Saturn could very well be the police. The augmented t-square, Mars & Saturn to Sun to Moon, could indicate loss of life due to police (or counter demonstration) actions.

re: decency - Thought this OpEd in the New York Times might interest you. It makes a case for a new and powerful force of change arising in the US., the force of decency. Is this Lilith in the US chart? Ceres? Other asteroids? Would love to see your thoughts in a future column.

A. Thanks for the link, and it’s something I’ve referred to in the past based on the Saturn-Pluto conjunction in Capricorn with the close involvement of Ceres and Eris. This chart will be reviewed again in the near future.

re: unwitting collusion - In your story on the Mueller investigation, the unwitting comment was not in any way a likely reference to Don Jr.s meeting which was very witting! He knew exactly who he was meeting with and why. That’s been well established. It refers instead to the indictment’s statements that Trump campaign staff around the country, in other words, locals, were the ones who worked with these people and were even paid by them without realizing they were dealing with Russians. That is stated plainly in the indictment. I think we will see more upcoming about the real Trump campaign running the show that were quite wittingly working with Russians including via social media in other ways via the Rebekah Mercer firm, Cambridge Analytica.

re: Ceres - My question has to do with ceres. I recently discovered that when ceres goes retrograde it lasts for 9 months (long enough to gestate and birth an infant!) and since it's in leo it's conjuncting the very planets pluto is inconjuncting. Since many people must have pluto in leo, is this some kind of generational thing? In my life it has manifested partially as distress and death stalking my pets no matter how hard I try to protect them. Hoping for some relief in June when ceres heads into virgo.

A. Ceres is retrograde for only three months, but is in Leo for nine months. Yes, this may influence the Pluto in Leo generation, also known as the “baby-boomers”. Many will have health crises during this time, or have to manage their parents’ well-being and life passages.

Kim Jong Un Makes Nice

Last week Trump abruptly cancelled his summit meeting with Kim Jong Un. Then the North Korean leader offered conciliatory remarks and staged a surprise visit with his South Korean counter-part in the de-militarized zone. Trump similarly made numerous tweets and public comments indicating that they may or may not meet on June 12. The daily reversals have all the earmarks of Uranian unpredictability.
This bi-wheel section shows how Meghan's natal Sun and Ceres have progressed to a near conjunction, which becomes exact in 2023
The emotional temperament of unpredictability can be seen in both Trump’s and Kim’s charts: they each have a sharp Moon-Uranus aspect. In Kim’s chart, transiting Uranus at 1º Taurus was precisely conjunct his 4th house Juno when he met with South Korean president, Moon Jae-In (orb: 0º00’!). From this, we can gather that Kim’s Juno represents his potential domestic partnership with South Korea. Kim’s Juno is then uniquely placed to end the Korean civil war.

Of course, his Juno opposes his 10th house Mars-Pluto conjunction, which indicates the intense military armaments challenging any agreement. Transiting Uranus will be going back and forth across this Juno-Mars-Pluto configuration through April 2019, a year-long phase when abrupt endings and beginnings can be expected. An interval when the best progress can be made is when Saturn turns direct in early September while trine transiting Uranus.

If the 7:00 am birth time is close to correct, then transiting Saturn will also be conjunct Kim’s Capricorn Ascendant, marking a practical, verifiable new beginning. Kim’s interest in meeting with Trump may be to get economic sanctions lifted, shown by transiting Pluto conjunct his progressed Venus at 20º Capricorn. Transiting Pluto and his progressed Venus are moving at approximately the same speed, so they will be intertwined through 2020. This provides a strong base on which to build an agreement with the U.S.
Her progressed Sun at 17º Virgo will conjoin her progressed Ceres in 2023, suggesting that her evolving sense of identity (progressed Sun) is being formed by motherhood (progressed Ceres). Over the next few years, the transiting Saturn-Pluto conjunction in Capricorn repeatedly activates this progression. For confirmation, we look to Prince Harry’s chart and see a similar pattern. His Virgo Sun trines a Moon-Ceres conjunction in Taurus, a fertile configuration also being activated by transiting Saturn-Pluto. Making children is high on their To-Do list.
With Cancer Rising, home, family, and children are natural priorities for Meghan so, in all likelihood, she will indeed be getting busy making childen soon. However, the ruler of her chart, the Moon, conjoins Saturn, and this can delay the process due to fertility issues or professional concerns. The Moon-Saturn also squares Mars, further weakening this traditional indicator. But the condition of her Ceres, the Great Mother asteroid, is another story.

Ceres is strongly placed in Virgo, the sign of the harvest. When she wed, her progressed Part of Fortune was trine her Ceres, showing how much the Great Mother archetype was blessing this occasion. We can see this in Queen Elizabeth’s role, and in Meghan’s likely path forward as a mother herself. Her progressed Ceres is now at 20º Virgo and being seriously activated by a trine from transiting Pluto.
Meghan Markle and the Great Mother

A regular reader asks a follow-up question about last week’s piece on Meghan Markle: “How long before their 1st child appears, and how many do you see for them? After all, she is 36, so she'd better get busy.” Traditional astrologers look to the Moon and the fifth house of children to get insights into this matter. However, Ceres may be the best indicator.
Top Five Astro-Events for June

1. Pluto is in a long-term square to the U.S. Juno this month, becoming exact on the 24th. Juno’s activation suggests the empowerment of women in a variety of ways, especially women who have been held back or under-appreciated for so long (12th house influence). Look for new developments within the #MeToo movement, a surge in politically active women, and the elevation of women in the corporate world.

2. Uranus is octile (45º) Neptune all month, and exact on the 16th -- just two days before Neptune turns retrograde. If we think of the internet as having started during the 1993 Uranus-Neptune conjunction, this opening octile represents some developmental pressure, the eruption of new problems and the attempts to manage them. The top news item in this field is currently how to manage private data in the digital age. This Uranus-Neptune cycle is also associated with “Fake News”. See nsc012918
3. Saturn is quincunx the North Node in Leo on the 18th, and may bring a turning point in personal affairs for many from the 16th through 22nd. Simultaneously, Venus conjoins the North Node while opposing Mars on the karmic South Node. Romantic triangles can begin or come apart at this time, while long-term commitments may also be under pressure. Utmost caution is required to safely navigate the difference between friendship and romantic interests.

4. The Summer Solstice on the 21st takes place at 6:08 am (EDT), and the chart set in Washington DC features scandal-mongering Neptune at the Midheaven. The Sun-Saturn opposition sets the tone for the next three months, and emphasizes the challenging political climate, both domestically and internationally, and which is exacerbated by the square to Chiron in Aries. However, the Sun-Saturn is also harmonized by Uranus in Taurus, which may bring surprising breakthroughs in longstanding rivalries.
5. Mars in Aquarius turns retrograde on the 26th, beginning a two-month phase. This interval is not a good time to start new business ventures, or otherwise begin new projects. Best advice is to slow down and be patient. Use the time to consider alternatives to achieving goals. Impulsive actions taken over the next two months are likely to backfire. For those with prominent placements in Aquarius, mental exhaustion may become a problem. Learn to take breaks.
