re: U.S. progressed MC - In the September astro-events, #5 mentions what happened during the last two challenging aspects. So what happened when the progressed MC was conjunct Saturn? or semi-square Saturn?
A. I looked at the conjunction. It was in 1837 and for the first time the Senate had to select the Vice President. It was a major test of the constitution.
re: US progressed Mercury - thanks for the encouraging progressed Mercury station aspecting Juno. I'm more hopeful now that Hillary will win
A. In the U.S. chart Juno and Chiron oppose each other. That means progressed Mercury is also sextile Chiron. The Juno in Libra opposite Chiron in Aries represents the candidates' emphasis on "We're in this together " vs. "I'm the only one who can fix the system." Mercury stations right around the time the debates begin, offering a forum for these polarities to play out.
re: Tim Kaine - I have followed your work for many years and especially appreciate your sharing your views on the political scene. Tim Kaine was Virginia’s lieutenant governor and then governor and I have followed his political career for some time too, as I live in Virginia.
I am delighted that Tim is Hillary’s choice for her running mate. Although I don’t know him personally, I have met him and have heard him speak a few times. He is very much who he appears to be – a really nice guy and an excellent political strategist. You would never know that his Eris is conjunct his Ascendant in Aries!
re: MO v/c - Love your articles, always so insightful. Please keep going! With that said, here's another possible article topic for you to explore: How a moon void affects the nominating process of a political convention.
The moon was void on Tuesday 3:56-8:10pm exactly the time Trump was nominated. When he and Pence formally accept the nomination tomorrow night after 6:56pm PST, the moon will be void again.
I'm seeing this as an encouraging sign for us Hillary supporters/Trump despisers. Your thoughts? Inquiring minds want to know!
A. Trump accepted the nomination at 10:20 pm when the Moon was sextile UR and square Mars... In any case, I don't buy the MO v/c thing for event charts. That's a horary technique... Don't forget that Obama took the Oath of office during a MO v/c and he got Obamacare passed.
re: Hillary overheated - As much as I’m a Trump fan, considering him a worthy “messenger” of needed change, I do also appreciate, being from NY state myself, what Hillary did for the state in the 9/11 aftermath. Your take on what was happening with Clinton sounds so “right on!” Also, you never can win trying to out-maneuver someone who’s from the Bronx using his natural tactics. re: North Korea - Based on last weeks NewsScope indicating a potential war involving the U.S. in June 2017 and this week's describing the planetary configurations effecting the North Korean leader at that same time it seems those two may match and it would be North Korea the U.S. ends up at war.

A. Yes, the progressed Venus cycle was in full play at that time, being conjunct not only Pluto but the progressed Ascendant. Also, progressed mars was making a rare octile to the Midheaven. A transiting Saturn-Uranus conjunction in the U.S. 7th house of "open enemies" was squaring the U.S. Moon. Transiting Mars kicked this configuration off by opposing the U.S. Saturn.

re: election - Like millions of other people in the United States I am devastated by Trump's election success. Hillary could still take the White House if on Dec. 19, 2017 when the electoral college votes enough members vote against a Trump presidency. I understand this has never happened in our history. However I looked at the planets on Dec. 19th and the Sun is opposite Trump's Sun and Mercury turns retrograde on that day. My question to you is: Do you think there is a possibility that could actually happen? Your time and efforts in fulfilling my request are greatly appreciated. re: election - How did astrologers go so spectacularly wrong? Every astrologer I read was wrong----and I read quite a few.. Not one predicted Trump. Also most of the polls called it wrong too.

Although many Astrologers got it wrong regarding who would win the Presidency to be fair you did point out some of Hillary’s astrological challenges and I credit you for that. re: war in 2017 - I have been wondering about it since 2008. A lot of astrologers were able to foresee the economic impact of 2008 and compared it to 1929. At the time, I felt that the economic downturn of 1929-32 staged the WWII around 1939. Financial downturns damage human lives. The result of a downturn, or the "fix" of financial downturn is a major cause for war, when the people see that wealth is re-distributed unfairly. However, no astrologer has given any clue of a major war after 2008, until I see your articles on 2017.

re: Trump's ACG map - Note that Trump's Mars descendant on his AstroCartoGraphy chart runs right through Pyongyang, N. Korea. Does this suggest N. Korea's saber rattling might provoke some type of militant destabilization or weakness for Trump?
A. It does indeed suggest an area where Trump might feel the urge to engage militarily or where military conflict might erupt.

re: the next war - After rereading your Sept 5th and Nov 2st columns, I got the impression that our next war maybe a war within. Perhaps sparked by the S. Dakota pipeline protests? Is there any indication with whom we would be going to war with in 2017? Foreign or Domestic? If foreign, do you foresee another 911 type terrorist attack?
re: Trump - You've hinted at a lot of stuff for some time. Political commentators have as well. Do you see the Trump presidency either coming to fruition or--if it does--lasting four years? If it does not last or does not actually occur at all is some actual Other determined by the other Oath of Office--whenever that might be?
A. In my article about the ceremonial Oath of Office horoscope, I show how Trump's inauguration chart is similar to JFK's and Nixon's because all three have Part of Fortune in hard aspect to Black Moon Lilith. And we know how both JFK's and Nixon's terms ended tragically before four years...
re: Sibley U.S.chart - I use the Sibley with good results. However, that is not to say that the Scorpio Rising chart isn't valid. Different perspectives may manifest in different charts. However, I'd like to point out the perspective of a friend whose spent 50 years in NGO work all over the world.
She knows little about astrology other than her own sign. However, she has often criticized the U.S. presence in port after port where she has been. "They always have to have the biggest ships. You always know when they are around. Why can't they make a softer
footprint???!!!!"
Yes, that's a display of power, although Scorpio says to me CIA, not giant battleships. More importantly to me, given that the Rising sign is the way you are perceived by others - this international display of overwhelming size speaks to me of Jupiter.
A. I wonder how many political enthusiasts can tell the difference between a Sagittarius Ascendant and a Sun-Jupiter conjunction trine the Ascendant? When 8º Scorpio is rising, the U.S. Sun-Jupiter conjunction in Cancer trines the Ascendant, bestowing all the grandiose qualities you see in a Sadge Ascendant.
Here's another perspective about a Scorpio Ascendant besides the secrecy thing: it resonates with the 8th house, and thus capitalism. And with four planets in the 8th house, the theme is much emphasized.
In addition to the Sun-Jupiter trine the Ascendant, it does so from the 9th house. What's the difference between the Sun in the 9th house and a Sagittarius Ascendant? I asked Jeff Jawer this once, and he couldn't say.
And with four planets in the 8th house, the U.S. has become a national umbrella for the powerful corporations that dominate the planet. Yes,they leave a huge "footprint" most everywhere, especially via innovative technology (Uranus), the military (Mars), the cultural celebrities (Venus), and the banking system (Jupiter).

Trump's Tweet Goes Nuclear
Among the many impulsive and provocative tweets Trump sent last week, the one about the need for the U.S. to expand its nuclear capability generated the most flak and anxiety. Since Putin had just cited Russia’s need to fortify its nuclear stockpile, some speculated that Trump’s tweet was a primal, chest-thumping response. But also last week, Putin chided the Democrats for being poor losers.
As suggested in last week’s column, Trump and Putin are astrologically compatible partners with numerous shared points in Gemini, Leo, and Libra. Also, Putin’s Jupiter is close to Trump’s Midheaven, while Trump’s Jupiter is sextile Putin’s Midheaven. They enthusiastically support each other’s leadership positions. The timing of the tweet (8:50 am) offers a clue about who the intended target may be.
At the time, transiting Black Moon Lilith was at 24º Scorpio – exactly opposite Trump’s Midheaven at 24º Taurus. The angular transit of Lilith invites closer inspection of the conditions around Trump’s natal Lilith at 4º Sagittarius. Looking at the A*C*G* maps, Trump’s Lilith line passes right through Beijing. Transiting Lilith will conjoin natal Lilith on March 25, so watch for more pointed tweets about China between now and then.
As Commander-in-Chief-elect, Trump’s progressed Uranus is a telling indicator: it’s precisely (to-the-minute) conjunct the U.S. Mars at 21º17’ Gemini. Currently, and over the next month, this progressed Uranus is receiving dramatic planetary stimulation from transiting Jupiter, Chiron, Saturn and Uranus. These transits are supportive and challenging at the same time, which has played out through Trump’s growing interest in military affairs. His appointment of several top generals underscores his long-term combative priorities.
Top Five Astro-Events for January
1. Mercury turns direct on the 8th in the last degree of Sagittarius. Traditional astrologers consider the 29th degree to be “critical” in some way, often with a sense of desperation or being at the end of a stressful transition. From the 6th through 11th (when Mercury re-enters Capricorn), watch out for arrogant, self-righteous, and hypocritical statements. Use your critical thinking and analytical power to persuade rather than pronounce.
2. The Full Moon on the 12th energizes the Capricorn/Cancer polarity, emphasizing family responsibilities, career, and cross-generational relationships. But this duty-conscious Moon has a strong kink since it squares a Jupiter-Uranus opposition, inspiring us to make a strong move in a new, more exciting direction. This Cardinal Grand Cross is action-oriented, but getting all the various participants, goals, and situations synchronized is the challenge. Find creative solutions between order and chaos.
3. Mars squares Saturn on the 19th, a stressful combination in effect from the 15th through 23rd. Expect heated clashes over morality, religion, and political ideology. For those with health issues, this aspect can bring physical pain. Be wary of accidents and violent confrontations. On the positive side, this astro-event can bolster endurance and any kind of physical activity that includes a whole-body approach, such as dancing, yoga or Tai Chi.
4. Uranus is trioctile (135º) the North Node on the 11th, but within one degree from the 1st through 24th. This wild card configuration can bring sudden and unexpected changes into your life, especially concerning any prominent natal placement at 5º or 20º of any sign. For many, a seemingly fated shift takes place concerning work or health that requires you to be more independent. Geopolitically, this aspect creates volatile, rapidly changing events.
5. Jupiter is quincunx (150º) Chiron all this month and next, blending the highly social and expansive side of Jupiter in Libra with the mystical, teaching side of Chiron. Jupiter-Chiron can bring a guru-type into your life, but some in this class will have hidden personal flaws that contradict what they’re teaching. This is a good time to get the Big Picture on your personal health, and help lost souls to become more integrated into your social network.
Peter Sellers’ Mercurial Dr. Strangelove
Last Thursday, immediately after Trump tweeted that the U.S. must expand its nuclear capability, the invocation of the film classic Dr. Strangelove rippled through the media. At the time of the tweet (8:50 am EST), Mercury was at 14º12’ Capricorn and exactly conjunct Mercury’s position when the film premiered on January 29, 1964. Mercury is the key to the film’s star, Peter Sellers.
Peter Sellers was born with an energetic Sun-Mars conjunction in Virgo (September 8, 1925; 6:00 am; Southsea, UK), which is professionally supported by a sextile to Pluto on one side and a sextile to Saturn on the other. This rather serious, hardworking influence is tempered by the Sun’s close octile (45º) to Black Moon Lilith, which gave him insights into human nature that he turned into comedic, anti-authoritarian characters.
The Virgo Sun also squares Pallas in Gemini, located in the 10th house of career. Geminis excel at impersonation, and Sellers’ too-close-for-comfort portrayal of the psychotic nuclear war expert helped make the film the best political satire of the 20th century. Mercury, the chart’s ruling planet, is located in the 12th house of anti-social behavior where it aspects all three of the outer planets. Sellers’ Mercury intuitively picks up the dark themes of the era’s zeitgeist.
By secondary progression, Mercury was at 29º Libra when Dr. Strangelove premiered, and exactly squaring his natal Lilith, emphasizing the Mercurial nature of the dark side. The film generated a backlash in Washington, and efforts were made to ensure that no crazy general could single-handedly unleash a nuclear war. Transiting Uranus was also right on Sellers’ Virgo Ascendant, creating a kind of electric fascination about him and the bizarre Dr. Strangelove. Rotten Tomatoes summarizes the film as being “as funny and as razor sharp today as it was in 1964.”
