Murder in the U.S.
The United States is unquestionably the most violent nation among the industrialized nations, especially when considering murder, suicide, and mass shootings. Many studies have shown that the number of deaths by firearms in the U.S. vastly exceeds those in the European nations, and even more so than in Japan and other Asian nations.
The material on this page is excerpted from "James Holmes and Black Moon Lilith, an article originally published in Dell Horoscope magazine
And the BML description is no idle speculation. I looked at CNN’s timeline of the worst mass shootings in the United States to check for any astrological signatures. Considering the event chart alone, the most common factor is Mars forming one or more hard aspects to the outer planets. This is to be expected. Since the list is about mass shootings in the U.S., the Scorpio Rising horoscope should also be activated. Here is CNN’s list:
Sep 5, 1949 – Howard Unruh kills 13 neighbors
Aug 1, 1966 – Charles Whitman kills 16, wounds 30
Sep 25, 1982 – George Banks kills 13
Jul 18, 1984 – James Huberty kills 21 at McDonalds
Oct 16, 1991 – George Hennard kills 23
Apr 20, 1999 – Columbine, 13 killed 23 wounded
Apr 16, 2007 – Seung Hui Cho kills 32, wounds many
Mar 10, 1999 – Michael McLendon kills 10 and himself
Apr 3, 2009 – Jiverly Wong kills 13, injures 4, kills himself
Nov 5, 2009 – Nidal Hassan kills 13, injures 32
Jul 20, 2012 – Holmes kills 12, wounds 58
Students and researchers are invited to check for themselves, but each of these events took place during significant transits and progressions involving the Scorpio Ascendant or Leo Midheaven. To me, this is strong evidence of the validity of the Scorpio Rising chart. But don’t take my word for it. Compare the data with the chart. If you prefer some other U.S. chart, evaluate the results and see which one works best.
(The details of the major transits and progressions to the U.S. chart are described in the forthcoming article in Dell Horoscope, as well as the primacy of Black Moon Lilith.)
This biwheel segment features the U.S. chart on the inside while the outer ring shows the chart progressed to December 14, 2012 when Adam Lanza went berserk in Newtown, CT. Note that progressed Lilith is entering the U.S. 12th house and is heading for progressed Mars. On December 12, transiting Neptune at 0º Pisces was closely trioctile (sesquisquare) progressed Lilith. Over the next few years, the transiting Uranus-Pluto square activates the entire lethal configuration, promising more horrifying massacres committed by gun nuts.
Black Moon Lilith is also involved. In the U.S. chart, she’s located at 19º Virgo where she conjoins Neptune and squares Mars. BML is also widely trine Pluto, so that this ferocious, dangerous archetype is a key influence over the U.S.’s ruling planets. As Lilith-researcher Kelley Hunter has pointed out, when Black Moon Lilith adversely aspects Mars, there is a corresponding fascination with guns and violence. When Pluto is added in, violence becomes a fascination with the potential for acting out extremely destructive behavior.
The United Nations looks at it as a health problem, while numerous politicians see it as a need for gun control. Following the 2011 assassination attempt on Rep. Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona, Senator Frank Lautenberg (D.-N.J.) introduced some gun control legislation. As usual, he was stymied by the NRA and its political allies, but in the process, he told MSNBC some interesting facts.
“When we look at the number of murders in the United States (in) 2009, we had 9,500 people murdered. When we look around the world, we see large countries – the U.K., Germany, Japan had 200 or less killed in a year,” he said. Politifact checked his numbers and agreed they were largely correct. Other studies have shown that the number of deaths per capita is anywhere between 8 and 16 times larger in the U.S. than the rest of the high or medium income nations.
Astrologically, a Scorpio Rising U.S. horoscope helps explain this anomaly. I’ve written extensively on this chart, and I urge readers to get the details here. Those who advocate a Gemini or Sagittarius Rising chart aren’t in the same ballpark when we consider this unique American tendency for extreme violence.
Sure, the Americans have an outgoing, friendly disposition for the most part, as the Sagittarius Rising advocates are fond of saying. And the U.S. with its Sun-Jupiter conjunction certainly explains that. In the Scorpio Rising chart, the Sun-Jupiter conjunction forms a trine to the Ascendant from the 9th house (which is akin to Sagittarius), so that its optimism, nobility of character and all the other wonderful traits we associate with Sagittarius are present in the Scorpio Rising chart due to the primacy of the Sun-Jupiter placement.
However, Uranus is quincunx the Scorpio Ascendant, so there’s a corresponding premium placed on individual rights, notably, the second amendment and the right to bear arms. The problem with this attitude is that the more guns there are, the more opportunities there are to murder, commit suicide, or go on a shooting rampage. And as the United Nations and the Center for Disease Control point out, the U.S. has a chronic health issue regarding violence and the use of firearms.
The co-rulers of the Scorpio Rising chart are Mars and Pluto. Both are under stressful aspects in the natal chart, which increases the predisposition to use violence. Mars is located in the 8th house of death where it squares Neptune and forms a trioctile (135º aspect) to the Scorpio Ascendant. If this were an individual’s horoscope, most astrologers would have no problem in identifying a problem with violence.
Pluto in the 3rd house opposes Mercury, which we can associate with America’s great debates, its powerful communication and transportation industries, and perhaps the prevalence of conspiracy theories. Pluto here readily corresponds to the broadcasting of a culture of violence. Murder is everywhere - in film, television, comic books, and the news media. The editor’s old adage “If it bleeds, it leads” comes from Pluto in the 3rd house and Mars in Gemini.
Pluto also squares Chiron in the 6th house of health, so Pluto’s symbolism incorporates the potential for unbalanced mental health, especially regarding Plutonian matters like paranoia, obsessions and compulsions. Combine mental instability with a tendency for violence and we get murder by insanity. The clearest examples are the periodic assassinations or assassination attempts of presidents, which are generally carried out by nutcases.
