Astrology for the Soul by Jan Spiller Ever feel like you just can't win? When it seems like life deals an unfair blow, or when bad things happen to good people, we wonder at the unseen design behind these events. The karmic or fated situation that leaves us unfulfilled, or that feels like an Achilles heel (always a weak spot) is described in the natal horoscope as the Moon's South Node. It represents a familiar path because the pattern has been played out through many past life times. However, to grow into situations where you feel like a winner means expressing the characteristics and talents of the North Node. Jan Spiller's Astrology for the Soul explains exactly how to motivate your North Node, and become a winner in the game of life. Read the review. |

Brady's Book of Fixed Stars by Bernadette Brady Among the most useful tools in the astrologer's toolbox may be the fixed stars. When a fixed star is prominently placed in the horoscope, the individual's life takes a seemingly fated direction, according to the nature of that star. In today's humanistic astrology, where personal choice and psychological evolution are the most popular byways, fixed stars have been set aside to make room for more creative indicators. Nowadays fixed stars have become associated with superstition and uncertain characteristics carried forward from ancient times. Bernadette Brady sets the record straight with Brady's Book of Fixed Stars. Read the review. |

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Astrology by Madeline Gerwick Brodeur and Lisa Menard, Back in the old days, when I owned a Volkswagen bug and was engrossed in metaphysical realities, I had a tough time dealing with the actual material world. My bug broke down, but I was saved by a wonderful fix-it manual called The Complete Idiot's Guide to Volkswagen Repair. The simple approach to understanding the essentials of car mechanics was right there in basic English, and fully illustrated. While I didn't feel like an idiot, at least in bug maintenance, I needed this helpful guide. The same nuts-and-bolts approach to astrology can be found in The Complete Idiot's Guide to Astrology. Making the Gods Work for You by Caroline Casey Many people consult astrologers to get a fix on an uncertain future. The underlying assumption is that the horoscope can provide an accurate glimpse into current predicaments, and how they will turn out. For most questions, a good astrologer can indeed see how events will unfold, given a client's set pattern of responses derived from planetary configurations. But for those willing to work with undeveloped parts of their psyches, the horoscope becomes a map to co-creating a healthy and fulfilling destiny. Making the Gods Work for You is Caroline Casey's guidebook to understanding the astrological language of the psyche. Read the review. |

The Sabian Symbols by Diana Roche In 1925 famed astrologer Marc Edmund Jones and one of his talented students developed an interesting idea. The student was Elsie Wheeler who was apparently in psychic contact with the ancient guides who originated the symbols for astrology's zodiac. The two made a visit to San Diego's Balboa Park with 360 index cards in hand with the purpose of creating a symbolic image for every degree of the zodiac. Elsie channeled the images, and Marc scribbled them down on the cards, and from this unique process derived what has become known as the Sabian Symbols. In The Sabian Symbols, A Screen of Prophecy author Diana Roche brings new life into these remarkable symbols. Read the review. |

Unveiling Your Future by Maritha Pottenger and Zipporah Dobyns Astrology has a variety of techniques and systems to understand what the future might bring. Probably the easiest and most popular tool is by looking at the outer planets positions over the coming year and comparing those to the natal horoscope. However, many astrologers have discovered that a wonderful Jupiter transit often brings nothing of the expected blessings or opportunities, or that contrarily, a very difficult Saturn or Uranus transit sometimes brings success and recognition. The more accurate forecasting tool is secondary progressions, and when these are favorable, the difficult transits tend to be occasions of dynamic growth. Until Maritha Pottenger and Zipporah Dobyns teamed up to write Unveiling Your Future, secondary progressions were usually described in a chapter or two on prediction techniques. Read the review. |

Astrological Timing of Critical Illness by Noel Tyl In Astrological Timing of Critical Illness, Tyl tackles a difficult subject. Astrology and medicine have historically been comfortable companions, that is, until modern science began discounting the value of planetary correspondences a few centuries ago. Today's doctors are schooled in a self-defined corner of our holistic universe, and find it profitable and edifying to hawk pharmaceuticals and high-tech surgery when the mechanical body parts break down. Without any metaphysical background, most doctors and scientists are unable to see a connection between planets and physical illness. Acknowledging that he isn't a doctor, Tyl nevertheless finds ample evidence linking critical illness with specific astrological indicators. Read the review. |
